If you don't know what I'm talking about, go check out my new story about one of my MOST EMBARRASSING high school moments, when my teacher made me feel stupid over something I just plain didn't hear.
Hearing loss can cause people to adopt less than ideal coping mechanisms - bad hearing habits - to deal with listening fatigue. In the case of Mr. Finkle, I didn't set myself up to be able to hear him properly, never asked him to repeat himself, and eventually just spaced him out. He did NOT like that one bit! But even though he was harsh with me, it ultimately led to my sensorineural hearing loss diagnosis, and in the long run, hearing aids. Have I mentioned I LOVE using hearing aids?
So who's your Mr. Finkle? Whether you're hard of hearing or not, is there someone out there who gave you an unceremonious kick in the pants that led you to make a change?
